History of the Building, Part One

U7 is the latest incarnation of a historic building, the First Baptist Church, part of the Las Vegas National Heritage Area. The building was constructed in 1885, but burned down in 1922 and was rebuilt shortly thereafter. The architect was O. M. Sperry. The building was nominated to the National Register in 1985, along with most of the other historic properties in the downtown. It was last used for church services in 2001.

In 2001, Dosia Smith bought the building with the intention of starting a charter school. She donated the building to UWC last year.
